The problem
We met with the SevenBridges team based in Boston, USA, in the context of a buyer-side technical due diligence commissioned by an investor.
The SevenBridges biomedical data analysis platform was built at the intersection of cutting-edge biomedical research and the most advanced data science techniques, often in collaboration with universities, the US government, and private companies. SevenBridges was recognized for its customer-centric culture and engaged in both software and service activities. Teams were deployed in the USA and Europe.
The scope of our due diligence study was particularly broad. From a strategic perspective, it involved identifying uniqueness, defensibility, scalability, and their dependencies, as well as bringing a perspective on the balance between the software and service business. The technological aspect included evaluating the software platform, architecture, methods, and processes, a high level of security and compliance with demanding standards, collaboration among teams worldwide, identifying potential technical debt, and studying patents.
Our solution
We conducted a comprehensive technical due diligence, covering the three components: people, processes and technology, including 5 days of on-site interviews. Also, we did a deeper dive on specific elements such as the governance of the product management function, cost reduction programs for platform maintenance, maturity of agile methods, and optimization of the SaaS platform were examined.
Our study covered the company's activities in the USA (Boston) and Europe (Serbia).
Results
The due diligence report enabled the investor to fully understand their investment and associated risks, as well as recommendations to mitigate them.
After acquisition, we have been following the recommendations plan. We visited the firm's operations in Serbia and offered our support to the company's transformation program
